How the Love Calculator Works
This calculator blends a few playful ingredients into one result: a Love Score (with a Romance/Friendship/Communication/Trust breakdown) generated from the letters in both names, the classic FLAMES letter-elimination game, and — if you add birthdates — a lighthearted zodiac compatibility factor that's blended into the score. None of it is scientific; it's meant to be a fun icebreaker, not relationship advice.
The Classic FLAMES Game
FLAMES is a schoolyard game that's been played on notebook paper for generations. Matching letters between two names are crossed out one pair at a time, and the number of letters left over is used to count around the word F-L-A-M-E-S — Friends, Lovers, Affectionate, Marriage, Enemies, Siblings — eliminating one letter per lap until a single result remains. Hit calculate to watch it play out letter by letter.
Zodiac Compatibility, Simplified
Every zodiac sign belongs to one of four elements: Fire, Earth, Air or Water. Folklore holds that Fire and Air signs tend to energize each other, Earth and Water signs tend to support each other, and cross-element pairings (like Fire and Water) make for a livelier — if bumpier — ride. Toggle "Add birthdates" to see both signs and blend their elemental vibe into your Love Score.
This tool is intended purely for entertainment. It does not use any scientific, psychological or astrological methodology to predict real relationship outcomes — use it for fun with friends, not as relationship advice.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. This tool is for entertainment only. It uses a playful formula based on the letters in your names (plus the classic FLAMES game and, optionally, zodiac signs) — it is not a scientific or psychological measure of real compatibility.
FLAMES is a classic pen-and-paper game: matching letters between two names are cancelled out one by one, and the number of letters left over is used to count through F-L-A-M-E-S (Friends, Lovers, Affectionate, Marriage, Enemies, Siblings) until one word remains. This calculator animates that process letter by letter.
Yes — swapping which name you enter first can change the Love Score, since the formula reads the names in order. That's part of the fun, so try it both ways.
No. Birthdates are optional. If you add them, they unlock each person's zodiac sign and blend a lighthearted elemental-compatibility factor into the Love Score and category breakdown — without them, the score is based on names alone.
They're a playful breakdown of the overall Love Score into four themed categories, each generated the same way as the main score — for fun, not as a real relationship assessment.
