Two Ways to Split a Bill
Split Evenly divides the whole bill — including tax and tip — equally among everyone, regardless of who ordered what. It's the simplest option when everyone's roughly in the same ballpark.
Split by Person lets you enter what each person actually spent (their share of the subtotal), then divides tax and tip either evenly across the group or proportionally to each person's spend. Any leftover pennies from rounding are assigned automatically so every share adds up exactly to the total — nobody's left arguing over a cent.
Frequently Asked Questions
Enter each person's name and how much of the subtotal they're responsible for. Tax and tip can then be split either evenly across everyone, or proportionally based on each person's share of the subtotal.
Either is common. Splitting proportionally to spend is often seen as fairer when order sizes differ a lot; splitting evenly is simpler and common among friends who don't want to itemize.
Rounding every share to the nearest cent independently can leave the total a penny or two off. This calculator distributes any leftover pennies to whoever has the largest rounding remainder, so the per-person amounts always add up exactly to the bill total.
Yes. Enter each person's name and how much of the shopping total is theirs (or split evenly if everyone is chipping in equally), add any shared tax, and it works the same way.
