How This Calculator Works
+ โ ร รท โ enter two fractions (with an optional whole number for mixed numbers like 2 1/2), pick an operation, and get the result simplified, as a mixed number, and as a decimal.
Simplify โ enter any fraction and reduce it to its lowest terms by dividing both the numerator and denominator by their greatest common factor.
Decimal โ Fraction โ enter a decimal number (like 0.625) and convert it to its exact fraction form (5/8), simplified automatically.
Frequently Asked Questions
Convert both fractions to a common denominator (multiplying the two denominators together always works), then add the numerators and keep the common denominator. This calculator does that automatically and simplifies the result.
Divide the numerator and denominator by their greatest common factor (GCF) until the fraction can't be reduced any further. For example, 6/8 divided by a GCF of 2 becomes 3/4.
Write the decimal over a power of 10 matching its number of decimal places, then simplify. For example, 0.75 has 2 decimal places, so it becomes 75/100, which simplifies to 3/4.
Multiply the first fraction by the reciprocal (flipped version) of the second fraction. For example, 1/2 divided by 3/4 equals 1/2 times 4/3, which is 4/6, simplified to 2/3.
